FAQs

Service Upgrade Questions

How long does a service upgrade take? β–Ύ
Most service upgrades are completed in a single day. The power will be off for several hours while we install the new meter socket and service entrance. Eversource reconnects power the same day in most cases.
Do I need Eversource involved for a service upgrade? β–Ύ
Yes. Any service upgrade that changes the meter socket or service entrance requires Eversource to disconnect and reconnect the utility feed. Giardi Electric handles all coordination with Eversource so you don't have to.
Will a 200A service handle an EV charger? β–Ύ
In most cases, yes. A 200A service provides plenty of capacity for a Level 2 EV charger alongside normal household loads. If you're adding multiple EVs or solar + battery storage, we may recommend 400A.
Does a service upgrade require a permit in Massachusetts? β–Ύ
Yes β€” electrical service upgrades require both an electrical permit from the city and an application to Eversource. Giardi Electric handles both and ensures your project passes final inspection.
